Volivoli Beach Resort, Fiji

Volivoli Fiji pool

We had an enjoyable long weekend at Volivoli in Rakiraki on the north coast of Fiji. The price point for a room is medium range, but the bill quickly adds up with the compulsory meal plan and activities. We scuba dive, which got quite pricey.

The resort is on a hill, so there are lovely, even stunning, views of the bay and surrounding mountains. We got one of the more basic rooms. It was clean and comfortable, with AC and a ceiling fan. On the small side in size, and there are the regular tropical beach bugs (ex: ants) here and there, but on the whole a pleasant experience. Everything seems relatively new. There is a patio area about the size of the room, and it’s recessed from neighboring rooms for privacy, although you can easily hear your neighbors if they’re also on their patio.

We savored our home-brewed beer on the patio on a sunny afternoon.

I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the resort’s cuisine. The menu per meal has good variety, including specials, and the head of cuisine seems to keep up with foodie trends. I loved the eggs benedict with local smoked fish for breakfast; I topped it off with sun-dried tomatoes from the buffet. I recommend any of the fish dishes for any meal and the locally sourced brisket for dinner.

There is no TV in the rooms, and the Wi-Fi is not strong, so I recommend getting a SIM card and data plan at the airport from Vodafone or Digicel if you’re visiting Fiji. That way, you’ll have easy access to entertainment from your devices.
