Govinda is an Indian vegetarian restaurant in Suva, Fiji. It’s become my favorite takeout place in the city.
I’m not a vegetarian, but I do eat a lot of veggies every day. The vegetarian dishes are so good at Govinda, they make even a meat lover like me happy. Whoever’s doing the cooking is doing a bang-up job. The bold flavors have plenty of umami, and there’s a lot of variety in vegetables and legumes.
I recommend the vegetarian version of butter chicken and the pumpkin and the potato and the okra dishes. I also love to order samosas and bhaji, plus plenty of roti to soak up the yummy juices. You can request chutney, a tart tamarind-based sauce, to enhance the flavors.
Govinda also makes desserts, including ice cream. Try a barfi, which is kind of like the Indian take on fudge. Not as buttery but just as delicious. Coffee barfi is my favorite.
