We stayed two nights at the Warwick for Valentine’s weekend. The hotel is on the coast, about a 2-hr. drive from Suva.
I was pretty impressed. The Warwick is better than I thought it would be, and for Valentine’s weekend, they added special touches: a complimentary bottle of bubbly on the bistro table in the room when we arrived, and a box of two big heart-shaped sugar cookies with pink frosting waiting for us the night of our arrival.
The hotel is part of an international chain. It looks like a smaller version of the Intercon, a megaresort further up the coast. The landscaping is beautiful, and the common areas are clean, spacious and inviting. There is a family wing and an adults-only wing.
Our room had a small balcony, where we enjoyed sitting at the bistro table, sipping coffee or drinks and taking in the view.
The room decor blends modern and local. The look is uncluttered, and the paintings on the walls are distinctly regional. Nice, bright lighting, too.
For food, we stuck to the buffet, which is complimentary for breakfast and comes with a fee for other meals. I was happy with the variety and the taste for the two nights. Nothing fancy, but I was satisfied. The cuisine varies nightly.
You can reserve dinner seats at the Italian restaurant next to the buffet area, or the seafood restaurant jutting out from the shore.
A few cons: Our bathroom sink leaked. The beach is mostly rock, so you can’t lounge on the shore, but you can lounge above the beach on the grassy area and around the pools. It can be very windy during the day, which can make some water sports difficult. Also, I’ve heard that depending on the clientele, the grounds can be loud with people partying.
Luckily, it was quiet when we were there. On the whole, we enjoyed it. We will likely be back.
