We tried Waidroka Bay Resort last weekend, a surf and dive resort about an hour’s drive from Suva. It was the second weekend they’d reopened since the COVID-19 lockdown. There were only a few guests, so there was plenty of breathing room.
I can’t speak to the surfing or diving here since I didn’t partake in either activity, but I enjoyed our two-night stay. We had an oceanfront bure (Fijian term for house) that was well decorated with local style. The bure was large for two people, and there was a small dining table with tea kettle and a lounger in addition to the bed. There was an AC, ceiling fan and good lighting for reading. The porch had a dining table and a hammock-like chair.
A big plus for us was that the resort allowed our two dogs. They love running around, and they were able to do plenty of that at Waidroka. They even made friends with a local dog who showed up at our door early in the morning, waiting for our dogs to come out and play.
Kayaks and standup paddleboards are available, and we paddled around the bay the day we arrived.
Hubby had fun diving Saturday morning. He said visibility was clear, and he experienced a school of dolphins swimming alongside the boat. I worked out in the resort’s yoga room while he was diving.
I give the food a big thumbs up. The chef did a good job on flavor and presentation.
Overall, the resort is a casual, comfortable place with friendly staff.
