I love decorating our home with personal touches, particularly artwork I’ve created that serves as reminders of the places we’ve lived in and visited around the world.
I like to create gallery walls, like the one pictured above, to feature the art.
The drawing at the top of the gallery depicts a scene at a jerk center in Boston, Jamaica. Boston is famous for its jerk, a classic flavor profile and technique of Jamaican cuisine.
The middle left drawing shows “Timmy,” our guy in Port Antonio, Jamaica, who would cook our lionfish and lobster catch on the beach from our dives. We used to drive from our home in Kingston to Port Antonio for diving day trips.
The middle center is a drawing of the Flatiron building in New York City. When I lived in NYC, I used to go to a yoga studio on 23rd St. There was a store that sold periodicals from around the world in that neighborhood, and I loved popping in there to browse magazines I couldn’t find anywhere else.
The middle right is a portrait of me with a bulldog in a neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, where I lived before Fiji. I love bulldogs; they’re adorable. Now, we have two Fijian dogs: Guthrie and Jolene.
The drawing at the bottom of the gallery is a coastal scene from El Nido, a beach town in Palawan in the Philippines. I was impressed with the place when we visited. It has stunning natural beauty and a welcoming, chill vibe.
